Obituary for Charles Edward Smith

Charlie Smith, age 77, of Brunswick, GA passed away on the evening of Wednesday, January 1, 2020.

Charlie was born on August 24th, 1942 in Statesboro, GA. to the late Otis and Evelyn Smith. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend who truly gave his time and support to all he loved. No matter the mood or circumstance he could make someone laugh, smile and feel important. His heart was stern, yet soft. His passions ran deep as well as his silence.

His love of golf was one of his favorite topics of conversation. Up to his final weeks of life he could chip a golf ball to hit any target you pointed out. During his middle life years he developed many friendships through golf that remained a blessing to him through to his final days. He taught his children the game of golf from a young age and then his grandchildren. His love of music blessed many as well, especially his love song ballad serenade of songs like "he stopped loving her today" by George Jones of which he serenaded the hospital staff and family in his final days. Charlie also enjoyed stock car racing and built many lifelong friendships through the sport. One of the many traits his family admires of him is his strong and impeccable work ethic and dedication to persevering no matter the challenge.

Mr. Smith was also a steel fabrication business owner and operator, a trade he perfected over 45 years of experience.

Mr. Smith is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Faye Smith, of Brunswick, GA; his son, Charlie (Angela) Smith of Greer, SC; his daughter, Pamela Crosby (Smith) of St. Simons Island, Ga.; and his grandchildren Sarah Crosby, Drake Smith, and Brooke Crosby.

Charlie joins the rest of his family in heaven; his parents, younger brother and older brother.

A memorial will be held at a later date.
