Obituary for James L. Turner Sr.

Mr. James Loudon Turner, Sr.
December 5, 1928 – August 5, 2017

Mr. James L. Turner, Sr. of Jackson, Georgia (formerly of Griffin) passed away at age 88 on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin. He was born in South Pittsburg, Tennessee to the late Melville and Florapearl Turner, and moved to Griffin, Georgia at the age of 7. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Melville Armstrong Turner; sister, Margie Turner Holton; and son-in-law, Jerry Force.

Mr. Turner was a graduate of the University of Georgia. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served during the Korean War. He received two Purple Heart medals for wounds received while assigned to Marine outpost Bunker Hill. Mr. Turner enjoyed hunting, the outdoors, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jean A. Turner; children and spouses: James L. Turner, Jr. and Sandra; Carol Turner Force; grandchildren, Brandon D. Force, Ryan T. Force; Margaret (Turner) and Martin Burrows; and James L. and Stephanie Turner, III.

Mr. Turner was a devoted and loving son, husband, father and grandfather who served his country with honor. The family would like to thank Dr. Kevin Napier and the staff at Brightmoor Hospice for the care and attention he received while a resident there.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
