Obituary for Edward F. Duke Sr.

Edward F.  Duke Sr.
Mr. Edward F. Duke, Sr., age 88, of Griffin, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Providence Healthcare of Thomaston.

Ed was born on November 19, 1929 in Griffin, GA. He was a veteran of the US Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Ed was the owner of Varsity Sports Center in Griffin for 63 years, and was very involved in local athletic clubs, games and events. He was also a member of Hanleiter Methodist Church in Griffin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Troy Duke and Eunice Ogletree Duke Bernstein; first wife, Catherine Jimmerson Duke; and son, Ronnie Eugene Dunn, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Dunn Duke; son, Edward F. Duke Jr., (Kathy), and Tim Dunn; grandchildren, Edward F. Duke III (Whitney), Will Woodson Duke, Michael Dunn (Lindsey), Jessica Todd (Chris), and Lei Dunn (Jordan); great-grandchildren, Piper Duke, Piper Dunn, Payton Bell, and Addie Todd; and special niece, Rhonda Calhoun Butler.

Funeral services for Mr. Edward F. Duke, Sr. will be held Sunday, July 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Reverend Don Yarbrough will officiate. Friends may visit the family on Sunday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Westmoreland Scholarship Fund in care of Hanleiter Methodist Church, 732 West Broad Street, Griffin, GA 30223, in memory of Mr. Edward F. Duke, Sr.
